Villa Paterno, Pelago - Florence and Chianti
Villa Paterno is a very large and elegant apartment with a private pool, set in an impressive building that was once a monastery of the Vallombrosan monks dating back to the 17th century. With its spacious layout and beautiful setting, it provides an ideal base for a holiday with family or friends.
Just outside the gates of the villa lies a small but well-stocked grocery store called Meini Vezio. The charming town of Pelago is only a five-minute drive away and offers a small selection of shops, including a COOP supermarket. Larger supermarkets can be found in Pontassieve, about 10 kilometres from the villa. Florence is only about 30 kilometres away, and we recommend taking the train from Pontassieve to Firenze Santa Maria Novella. The towns, villages and wineries of the Chianti region are also within easy reach.
The property enjoys a rural setting. The large white-painted building houses the apartment on the first floor, accessed via an elegant stone staircase. The spacious terrace, furnished with a table, chairs and a stone-built barbecue, offers magnificent views of the Tuscan hills dotted with olive groves and vineyards. The 20-metre-long pool is perfect for serious swimming, while the surrounding area invites guests to relax and unwind.
Inside, guests are welcomed by generously proportioned rooms with elegant tiled floors softened by Persian rugs. Antique furniture pieces add a refined yet homely atmosphere.
The on-site chapel is licensed for weddings and baptisms. The owner lives on the property but has a separate private entrance. She occasionally uses the pool with her family but always respects the guests’ privacy. Two pet dogs live on the estate but are not allowed in the pool area.

Florence, obviously, an easy trip from Pontassieve on the comfortable train, visiting Uffizi.
With teenage daughters the designer outlet was very close by, and trips into the hills to keep my 80 year old mother entertained, with many a stop for a cooling aperol spritz or gelato to combat the heat
Went into the hills visiting Stia (to buy winter coats, twice), Poppi's castle and town, Vallambrosa forest, beautiful places.
Went to see an opera, La Boheme, at the Puccini Grand Theatre close to Lucca, a late night, but so good.
A day out in Sienna was lovely, although hot and touristy, in July, but a great chance to sit in the Campo and watch the world go by.
Food at Leonia's in Pelogo, lovely pizzas and atmosphere.
Great shop next the the villa, what a great place to have on our door step.
