Casale la Canonica is a picture-perfect property built of typical Tuscan stone and joined to the neighbouring church. This property is ideal for large families or groups and is just 3.5km from one of the five main Chianti towns Castellina.

In front of the villa is a beautiful furnished terrace and wonderful lawn with a large swimming pool surrounded by sun beds. This area is completely private and ideal to enjoy relaxing meals al fresco or just to soak up the warm Tuscan sun. A few steps away from the pool is a gazebo and barbeque area.

The Villa was formerly the priests house - which is how it takes its name - and offers spacious accommodation with 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. There are well-established pretty gardens at the property with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

The original terracotta tiled floors, ceilings and sturdy wooden beams have been retained throughout the property. All of the windows have views out across the gardens and countryside areas surrounding the property.

The main entrance hall has been converted into a study area with large writing desk and 3 chairs. Internet access is provided but you need to bring your own computer. There is a cloakroom here with WC and basin. Two corridors lead from the study area – one to three of the bedrooms and bathrooms and the other to the lounge and kitchen of the property.

The lounge is furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs, flat-screen TV with some satellite channels and open fireplace. In this area is also a large dining table and chairs. An archway takes you from the lounge into the spacious kitchen area with ‘floating island’ that can be used as a preparation area or a breakfast table; there are 4 stools around the island.

The kitchen is well appointed with American style fridge freezer, built-in oven, separate cooking hobs and extractor fan, dishwasher and coffee making machine. There is also a washing machine provided for guests use.

The three bedrooms downstairs all have en-suite bathrooms. Along the hallway to the right you go down a few steps into the first twin bedroom which has an en-suite shower, WC and basin.

On the left hand side of the hallway is a double bedroom which has an en-suite with walk-in shower, WC and basin. The last bedroom along this hallway is another twin room with spacious en-suite with bath and hand-held shower, WC and basin.

Continuing to the top of the stairs you find yourself in another hallway. From here to the left is the third twin bedroom which has an en-suite shower, WC and basin. As you move along the corridor you reach on the left another bedroom. This large bedroom has a handmade iron double bed; the en-suite bathroom is down a few steps and has a bath with hand-held shower, WC and basin.

On the right of the hallway is the large master bathroom which has a Jacuzzi corner bath, separate shower cubicle, his and hers sinks and WC.

The master bedroom is a few steps away and is enormous in size. There is a pretty wrought-iron four poster double bed, fireplace, antique wardrobe and dresser within this spacious room.

Mosquito screens are provided in the upper floor windows.

Casale la Canonica is ideal for large families or groups and is just 3.5km from one of the five main Chianti towns Castellina.

Pros We are delighted to show you that the owner has repaired the access road to the property.

Cons The views from the garden are pretty but not extensive.
Local attractions There is a restaurant within walking distance.

Pros It was big enough to accommodate 12 people in comfort and had a good number of bathrooms. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Wifi was a bit hit or miss but worked well enough not to be a problem.
Cons The drive from the road up to the house was a nightmare. All the cars in the party were scratched on this dirt track. There was room for one car parked tight to the church next door which meant not having to use the drive but others were forced to park at the bottom of the hill which meant a long walk to the house, impractical with provisions.
Local attractions Unfortunately I didn't make a note of the restaurants names but the place in Panzano overlooking the valley was excellent with stunning views as were several restaurants on the main square in Greve. I would also recommend the gelateria in Castellina. This has a very good wine shop too.

Pros Very comfortable, very private and well located.
Cons No screens on the windows and no fans.
Local attractions Many good wineries. Liverano Winery on the road to Radda does a wonderful tasting and has great views from its location. Good little town to visit with a great restaurant is Volpaia (just north of Radda) and the restaurant is La Bottega which does lunch and dinner.

Pros The Villa was spacious and the yard with the pool in it was great. We were out in the nature, yet close enough to the town of Castellina. Kids played in the pool everyday and we had water polo matches in the afternoon. The kitchen is modern and has all cooking and serving items needed. Indoor and outdoor dining areas are great.
Cons I believe the villa needs to have AC units in the top 2 bedrooms. Also, screens on the bottom floor is needed. The beds could have been a little bit more comfortable.
Local attractions Towns of Rada, Castellina Sienna are very close to the Villa. The location of this villa is charming, set up on hillside in an old village. We ate at a few places, yet the 2 restaurants we ate at in Castellina were very good. La Chiantina is a family run place that is kid friendly. The meals are huge and reasonably priced. Portions are huge and food is very good. Albergaccio is a nicer place and we left the kids at home. We had an amazing meal here; we had pigeon, rabbit, lamb and wild boar as our main course. Entrees included risotto, meatballs etc.. The wine line contained Italy's best(not gaja).

Pros Pictures on website don't do justice to this beautiful place , it was a lot better than I expected , the house is very large and comfortable , the place was simply spectacular , very nice pool .
Cons maybe the owner can cut some trees so people can enjoy the view , other than that no negative points so far
Local attractions All attractions and restaurants were really nice but the restaurant down the street was phenomenal , we had a couple of dinners there , the personel was friendly and spoke english and spanish. The little town of Valpoia is out of a movie and don't miss the restaurant La Bottega , very good.
