Casale la Canonica is a picture-perfect property built of typical Tuscan stone and joined to the neighbouring church. This property is ideal for large families or groups and is just 3.5km from one of the five main Chianti towns Castellina.

In front of the villa is a beautiful furnished terrace and wonderful lawn with a large swimming pool surrounded by sun beds. This area is completely private and ideal to enjoy relaxing meals al fresco or just to soak up the warm Tuscan sun. A few steps away from the pool is a gazebo and barbeque area.

The villa was formerly the priests house - which is how it takes its name - and offers spacious accommodation with 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. There are well-established pretty gardens at the property with some view of the surrounding countryside.

The original terracotta tiled floors, ceilings and sturdy wooden beams have been retained throughout the property. All of the windows have views out across the gardens and countryside areas surrounding the property.

The main entrance hall has been converted into a study area with large writing desk and 3 chairs. Internet access is provided but you need to bring your own computer. There is a cloakroom here with WC and basin. Two corridors lead from the study area – one to three of the bedrooms and bathrooms and the other to the lounge and kitchen of the property.

The lounge is furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs, flat-screen TV with some satellite channels and open fireplace. In this area is also a large dining table and chairs. An archway takes you from the lounge into the spacious kitchen area with ‘floating island’ that can be used as a preparation area or a breakfast table; there are 4 stools around the island.

The kitchen is well appointed with American style fridge freezer, built-in oven, separate cooking hobs and extractor fan, dishwasher and coffee making machine. There is also a washing machine provided for guests use.

The three bedrooms downstairs all have en-suite bathrooms. Along the hallway to the right you go down a few steps into the first twin bedroom which has an en-suite shower, WC and basin.

On the left hand side of the hallway two steps down is a double bedroom which has an en-suite with walk-in shower, WC and basin. The last bedroom along this hallway is another twin room with spacious en-suite with bath and hand-held shower, WC and basin.
Continuing to the top of the stairs you find yourself in another hallway. From here to the left is the third twin bedroom which has an en-suite shower, WC and basin. As you move along the corridor you reach on the left another bedroom. This large bedroom has a handmade iron double bed; the en-suite bathroom is down a few steps and has a bath with hand-held shower, WC and basin.

On the right of the hallway is the large master bathroom which has a Jacuzzi corner bath, separate shower cubicle, his and hers sinks and WC.

The master bedroom is a few steps away and is enormous in size. There is a pretty wrought-iron four poster double bed, fireplace, antique wardrobe and dresser within this spacious room.

Mosquito screens are provided in the upper floor windows.

Double beds cannot be converted into twins and vice versa

Casale la Canonica is ideal for large families or groups and is just 3.5km from one of the five main Chianti towns Castellina.

We are a family of 12, 6 adults and 6 children ranging from 13 down to 11 weeks. All had a great time. The layout of the villa is clever with plenty of space to retreat to and although the kitchen area is not huge and the sitting room onto which it opens out is not huge either, the way the space is planned meant that meal preparation was easy and supervision of children possible at the same time. Our children all got on very well with each other and there was not one cross moment. I was worried about the temperature of the pool (end of May) but although it was cold it did not deter even the smallest child. Our cautious 5 year old made great strides with his swimming and they all raved about the pool. I loved waking up in the morning to the sound of the cuckoo outside the bedroom. A short walk outside the villa gives a view of the amazing countryside. Francesco was quick to respond when we had a power cut and he is delightful. We were extremely grateful for the games/activities provided by To Tuscany. They were excellent and really added value to our holiday. Very interesting booklet about the history of Pietrafitta (in English). The hedge surrounding the property was in flower and had a fantastic scent, as well as looking beautiful.
Local attractions We did get out and about. Radda was our favourite and our daughter loved the market in Poggibonsi. We got to Siena which was stunning and Castellina of course. But the younger children found the windy roads difficult and travel sickness was an issue so we spent a lot of time in the villa - definitely our favourite attraction!

Very nice property and great property manager Natalia of ACTIO Management Property Service who met when we arrived! She handled everything we needed during our 2 week stay. Knowing she was available was a real comfort. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Our family group of 8 adults and 2 teenagers spent two weeks at the villa. First of all, the villa is beautiful! The house and grounds exceeded our expectations. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed to prepare meals and be comfortable. The kids loved the pool which was always sparkling clean. The keyholder for the villa, Natalia, was wonderful! She was available whenever we had a question or a problem. She even brought us the most wonderful pastries for breakfast one morning. We left feeling like we had made a new friend. We had been warned about the driveway being very bumpy and not having room to park from previous reviews, but although the driveway is bumpy, it is definitely not unmanageable. We had two cars, one a 7 person van, and never had trouble finding a place to park them inside the gate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa and To Tuscany to friends and family who were planning a trip to Italy. It has been a positive experience from beginning to end. Thanks for a magical vacation!
Local attractions Gelateria di Castellina south of town on SR 222 at the intersection of SR 51. The best gelato we had, and it was so close we often drove into town just for gelato! Wonderful! (The lemon was my favorite!) Pizzeria il Fondaccio in Castellina. Fantastic pizza and you can get it boxed to go. We had a pizza feast in the gazebo at the villa. We also ate inside one night, and in their outdoor dining area another night.

The villa was amazing and very spacious.
The pool area was fantastic and we used the gazebo most nights for dinner.

The living area was huge and with 12 people staying it was still possible to find quiet parts of the house.

We also had the right number of single beds (and they were proper single beds) and double beds for our group and we loved it that each room had it's own bathroom.

The closest town, Castellani in Chianti was charming as were the other hilltop towns. Some of our party walked to the town, however it was probably easier to drive. I'd recommend hiring a car locally from Marco.

The supermarket in the town was very well stocked and there was a huge selection of other shops to buy food for the villa.

The wine of course was spectacular and many places offered free wine tasting.

I had my special birthday there outside by the pool and it was absolutely fantastic. We did all of the catering and cooking for 16 people on the day.

I can definitely recommend the villa and hope to someday return for another two weeks. One week just wasn't enough.

Patrice also made our check in and check out very easy.
Local attractions The closest restaurant at the end of the street had great food and coffee. Other than that we wandered around the town in Castellani in Chianti and most of the cafes and restaurants were excellent. We especially enjoyed the wine tasting in the town and bought several bottles for a very reasonable price. The locals were also very friendly and engaging.

This villa worked well for our group (2 families). The kitchen and living area was particularly good for everyone - adults cooking, kids watching DVDs etc. the pool was lovely (particularly after being cleaned and topped up) and was deep enough for diving practice. It was close to the villa and could be seen from the kitchen. The kitchen was well equipped and the American fridge with ice maker was v useful!
There were a lot of mosquitoes - so nothing to do with the villa - but this did include being bitten in the outdoor seating area and by the pool later on in the afternoon (we did use repellant).
