The villa is wrapped in gardens studded with olive and cypress trees and cradled by woods. Between the branches, take in the long views of a gentle landscape of vine-clad hills, visual inspiration for the days ahead. From here you can make easy trips to Florence or just tour the local lanes, stopping at wineries and visiting historic towns such as nearby Greve-in-Chianti.

Yet there is plenty of room to spread out around the house, especially at its fringes, with shaded terraces lining the ground floor. There’s a table to gather at, too, in the sleek modern kitchen, a generous, fully equipped space that will delight the cooks among your number.

Take the stone stairs to the first floor to find another sitting room and five double bedrooms, four on the first floor and one in the turret, including a master suite with a walk-in wardrobe. One bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and there is a private bathroom at this level as well as on the ground floor. Creative dashes of contemporary decor really come into their own in the sleeping quarters, striking a contrast with the general backdrop of traditional terracotta floors and beamed ceilings, mellow pastel shades and antique pieces.

Outside these four walls, in the garden below, is your very own taverna, where you can dine, relax, and play pool and other games. Or take the stone steps down to the large outdoor pool. There’s plenty to explore here before you head out of those villa gates.
