La Piaggia, Altopascio - Lucca and Viareggio
La Piaggia is a large, beautifully restored former farmhouse in a quiet hillside setting. With its well-maintained gardens and inviting pool, this holiday home is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday with family or friends.
Two villages are within walking distance: San Salvatore and Marginone, each offering a small selection of restaurants, grocery shops, a bakery and a butcher. In the nearby town of Altopascio, only 4 km away, you will find several supermarkets. Montecatini Terme, renowned for the therapeutic properties of its water and its Art Nouveau architecture, is just a 15-minute drive. The beautiful city of Lucca can be reached in around 30 minutes, as can Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. The coastal town of Viareggio is about 50 km away, and day trips to Pisa and Florence are also convenient. Families with young children will also enjoy a visit to the nearby Pinocchio Park in Collodi.
The two-storey villa is painted yellow with traditional green shutters. A large covered terrace provides a wonderful setting for dining outdoors. The spacious garden with pool offers plenty of room to relax and enjoy the Tuscan sunshine.
Inside, the original features of the old farmhouse have been carefully preserved. Wooden beamed ceilings, very large fireplaces, and exposed stone and brick walls highlight the historic character of the building. The furnishings are traditional and comfortable, perfectly complementing the style of the house.

Villa location
Guest reviews: La Piaggia
We were a large family staying with 3 young children and the pool being separate from the villa was perfect, safe and secure. We loved the open space and access to the garden and woods which gave the grandchildren lots of space to explore. It was very family friendly.
The hospitality of Teresa and her family was second to none. They were extremely accommodating and responsive, and the food provided was delicious.
The villa is a typically Tuscan which we loved, however it is a little dated by modern standards. Soft furnishings such lampshades and curtains were in a little disrepair and the bathrooms are in need of modernatisation. This did not affect our enjoyment of our stay but would have added to the overall experience.
We would recommend this villa if you like to be away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and want to enjoy the Tuscan countryside and little local villages.Monte Carlo was a lovely place to visit and within walking distance of the villa. The butchers and patisserie in Marginone are worth visiting for fresh meats and cakes. All within walking distance. We did a a trip to Viareggio and Pisa by train which was very easy from San Salvatore station, again the station is walking distance to the villa.
