A sweet little stone-built cottage, Villino Annalisa can easily host four guests, but is also a great option as a romantic retreat for two. There’s a big sofa to snuggle up on, a shady terrace for long, lazy dinners, and a raised private pool where you can sit with a sundowner and toast your luck, as you drink in the views. And there can be no more perfect way to start the day, sending the spirits soaring, than opening the shutters each morning to reveal the beautiful vista of mountains and valley.

From outside, the cottage appears charmingly traditional, but step through the front door and you find a rustic-chic décor that wouldn’t look out of place in an interiors magazine. It all feels fresh and new, with lots of natural materials, a tastefully muted colour palette, and an attractive bathroom, complete with large walk-in shower. Although secluded and quiet, the villa benefits from being on the edge of a large village, so shops, restaurants and bars are within walking distance. Plus Lucca, with its Renaissance walls and pretty cobble-stone piazzas, is under an hour away.

The owner’s sister owns the attached apartment at the end of the house, but this is currently unoccupied. The owner is a physiotherapist and can provide massages for an additional fee on request. There is a bamboo screen between the bedrooms. The heating is a cosy wood burning pellet stove downstairs and no heating upstairs.
